BAYOU CHICO - AERIAL VIEW OF ENTRANCE TO BAYOU AND WEIS-FRICKER MAHOGANY MILL

The lower end of Bayou Chico

This is a view of the Weis-Fricker Mahogany Lumber Mill and storage yard. This mill operated on the bayou for many years under the name of Patterson Lumber Co., Weis-Patterson, and Weis-Fricker. The "up" direction in the photo is southwest. In the lower left you can see the Bayou Chico drawbridge and Frisco Railroad bridge next to it. The railroad bridge stayed in the up position unless a train came. The rail line ran out to the Naval Air Station. Notice the rafts of logs in the bayou. Ships would dock at the Port of Pensacola and discharge Mahogany logs into the bay. A small boat would "raft" them up and tow the "rafts" to the bayou where they would wait to be sawed at the Mill. This photo is probably dated around 1956.
