The Southeastern U.S. has many miles of navigable waterways on which many millions of tons of products are barged each year. This helps our export markets by transporting agricultural, forest, and energy products cheaply. These waterways also help in controlling floods that would otherwise overrun cities and towns. Boating recreation also has become a very big industry on the waterways. Every person in some way benefits from our expansive network of navigable waterways.
