View of Rooks Marina on Bayou Texar

Rooks Marina on Bayou Texar

This is a view of Rooks Marina. We are looking Northeast from the Cervantes St. bridge. This marina is unique in that it is the only marina on Bayou Texar. The bayou is, except for this marina, exclusively residential. Rooks was there long before the bayou got crowded and was grandfathered in the city zoning. Some of the most expensive land in the area is found here. An area known as East Hill and East Pensacola Heights comprise the lower portion of the bayou. It is navigable for power boats up to about 50 feet but the bridge clearance of only 12 ft keeps many large yachts out that could otherwise be kept at owner's docks. The bridge is scheduled to be replaced in a couple of years and will be raised a few feet.
